Initial plans for SummerSlam 2025 have been seen on the latest season of WWE: Unreal.
The WWE behind-the-scenes series premiered season 2 on January 20 and once again gave fans an insight into the inner workings of the pro wrestling company. Along with new interviews with members of the roster and the creative team, footage from the writers’ room is also featured in the show.
During the scenes featuring creative meetings, whiteboards are seen with proposed matches on for upcoming events. In the lead-up to SummerSlam, the whiteboard for the 2025 event, which was also the first 2 night iteration of the show, showed matches that were pencilled in for the August show. While the 2 World Title matches between John Cena & Cody Rhodes and CM Punk & Gunther did take place, other matches were modified or scrapped altogether.
The card was set to feature more Hall of Famers, as Trish Stratus looked set to continue her 25 year anniversary run at the show, and there were also plans for a returning Brie Bella to reunite with her sister Nikki to challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
Additionally, Roman Reigns was at one point set to face Bron Breakker one-on-one, but this was changed to Reigns teaming with Jey Uso to take on Breakker and Bronson Reed. Uso was originally set to face Rusev at the summer Premium Live Event.
Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch was also scheduled to put her title on the line against Bayley instead of Lyra Valkyria, and the Women’s World Championship match was originally set to be a singles match between Naomi and IYO SKY. Rhea Ripley was added to the match.
There were also potential plans to have The Judgment Day split up, as Dominik Mysterio was set to face Finn Balor at the event.

WWE: Unreal will return later in the year, as the show has been confirmed for season 3.
