Sami Zayn has won the United States Championship for the first time in his career, securing the victory in front of a hot French crowd on the final WWE SmackDown before Clash in Paris.
Competing in the main event of the show on August 29, Zayn defeated Solo Sikoa to capture the title to the delight of the Lyon crowd. As expected, the MFTs got involved in the match to give Sikoa the upper hand while the referee was distracted. However, following Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu making their presence felt to act as the equalizers, a brawl ensued resulting in everyone fighting to the back.
With just Zayn and Sikoa left in the ring, Zayn hit 2 Helluva Kicks onto Sikoa to win the match and the title. Lost of pyro went off in the arena as Zayn celebrated to close out the show ahead of the Premium Live Event in Paris on August 31. The victory also brings Sikoa’s reign to an end at 62 days. Sikoa defeated Jacob Fatu at Night of Champions to also win the title for the first time in his career.
Sami Zayn Now One Step Closer To Becoming Grand Slam WWE Champion
With Zayn being a former Tag Team and Intercontinental Champion, the SmackDown star is now one World Title win away from joining the elite club of Grand Slam Champions in WWE. Zayn famously defeated Gunther at WreslteMania 40 to bring The Ring General’s record breaking title reign to an end, and defeated The Usos alongside Kevin Owens the year before to win the Tag Titles.
