The Rock and John Cena’s alliance may not have the name that was first reported.
Doing the unthinkable back at Elimination Chamber, John Cena officially turned heel by attacking Cody Rhodes and ending the night alongside The Final Boss and Travis Scott. Earlier in the night, Cena won the Elimination Chamber match and earned his right to challenge Rhodes for the Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania 41.
While neither man has appeared on WWE TV since the shocking events that took place in Toronto, multiple reports have broken regarding whether this was the original plan and what’s next. The latest report via WrestleVotes on the Backstage Pass podcast has noted that one name pitched for the partnership has been The Rock and Soul Connection, an homage to Rock’s late father and Hall of Famer “Soulman” Rocky Johnson:
“The unlikely yet shocking pair of The Rock and John Cena will have strong promotion behind it as we move towards WrestleMania with one of the ideas to label the duo being The Rock and Soul Connection, a nod to the Rock’s father, Soulman, Rocky Johnson, perhaps.”
Will The Rock Announce The New Partnership?
Following the report breaking, fans have questioned the name of the alliance and if this could be a future announcement from The Final Boss. According to Brian Gewirtz, a writer who has worked closely with Rock over the years, fans should not expect to hear this name be uttered on WWE TV, simply stating the following in response on social media:
“Your sources are drunk”
While it remains to be seen when The Great One will make his return to WWE TV, John Cena will next appear live at the WWE Raw taping on March 17th in Brussels, Belgium.
