WWE Royal Rumble 2026 winner Roman Reigns has now confirmed which World Champion he will face at WrestleMania 42.
Reigns appeared live in the main event segment of the February 2 show. Reigns asked the fans which champion he should chose; Drew McIntyre or CM Punk, but was then interrupted by the World Heavyweight Champion. Punk called out Finn Balor, which angered Reigns. The two then exchanged insults, with Punk claiming Reigns to be a part timer, and Reigns calling out Punk for taking a “10-year vacation.”
The insults continued with Punk’s infamous appearance on Colt Cabana’s podcast also being brought up and Reigns claiming he had influence in bringing Punk back in 2023. In the end, Reigns chose Punk as his WrestleMania opponent, and told the World Heavyweight Champion that he would be forced to acknowledge Reigns at the biggest show of the year.
Reigns won the Royal Rumble for a second time on January 31, last eliminating Gunther to become the last one standing.
Roman Reigns To Main Event WrestleMania 42
While not officially stated as such, it is all but confirmed that CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship will be the final match of WrestleMania 42 weekend. Reigns has main evented WrestleMania more than anyone else in WWE history, headlining the show in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Reigns’ most recent main event saw him, Punk and Seth Rollins battle it out in the main event of WrestleMania 41 night 1, which was also the first time that Punk had headlined the show. The match saw Seth Rollins as the victor after Paul Heyman betrayed both of his former clients.
