Ricochet Comments On WWE Counter-Programming AEW

AEW star Ricochet has given his thoughts on WWE counter-programming the promotion and how legitimate his comments have been online about the subject.

Fans have noticed that WWE has been more direct when going head-to-head with rival promotion AEW over the past few months. On top of hosting a double header of NXT Great American Bash and Saturday Night’s Main Event the same day as All In: Texas, September 20 will see Wrestlepalooza air on the same day as All Out, marking the first time that a main roster PLE has aired against an AEW pay-per-view.

The move has been more than coincidental, with many calling out the recent updates and counter-programming, including Ricochet with various social media posts on the subject. While appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show on September 16, the AEW was asked if his responses were in character or how he really feels on the subject:

“To be honest with you, that’s a little of both. That is a little where is the line drawn? Where is it real, where is it?”

Continuing, the high-flyer noted that he understood that every business is looking to make as much money as possible, while also praising the work of AEW over the past few months:

“Every company’s goal is to make the most money possible, that’s the goal of every company, that’s why you make a company. So, you can’t argue against that. But when we feel things are being done in bad faith, that’s when I feel, okay, then let’s get a little crazy. They can say whether they are doing it for this reason or that reason, they can say whatever they need to feel. How most people see it and view it is one way, so why not just say. We know what you are doing. But they can do that, they got their backers, they got their stuff.”

“But at the end of the day, I think AEW is in a great spot. I think AEW is focused on us. Now more than ever, I think they’re trying to figure out ways to create new stories and drama and suspense and while keeping it still sports-based, still creating an alternative to what people have known for years.”

When Did Ricochet Leave WWE For AEW?

Ricochet was written off WWE TV back in June after being attacked by Bron Breakker. With the former Intercontinental Champion’s contract status well known at that point in time, fans knew that this would be the final time they saw him on WWE TV for the foreseeable future. Later that year, Ricochet officially became All Elite by being revealed to be one of the surprise entrants in the Casino Gauntlet match at All In 2024.

Ricochet will team with Gates of Agony to take on The Hurt Syndicate at All Out on September 20.
