CM Punk looks set to be part of a major match at Elimination Chamber, which will take place in his hometown of Chicago.
As reported by WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, Punk is set to put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line at the upcoming show on February 28, and his opponent will be Finn Balor.
The report notes that there have been long-term plans for Punk to compete in Chicago once more, with one source noting to Sean Ross Sapp that Punk could accept the rematch with Balor on “his turf” after Punk defeated Balor on an episode of Raw in Belfast, Ireland. Despite losing the match clean, Balor has made it clear he is not done with Punk and wants one more shot against the veteran.
CM Punk Potentially Set For Huge Match Following Elimination Chamber
Assuming that Punk keeps hold of the World Heavyweight Championship following the Chicago Premium Live Event, the Raw star already has his Mania match booked. Following Roman Reigns winning the Royal Rumble at the long-running Premium Live Event, The Tribal Chief had a heated confrontation with Punk on the next episode of Raw. When all was said and done, Reigns chose Punk as his Mania opponent. This will mark the first time that the World Heavyweight Title will be defended in the main event of Mania since it was introduced in 2022. Seth Rollins competed in the main event of WrestleMania 40 night 1 while holding the title, but it was not on the line in the match.
