Pat McAfee joins SmackDown Commentary Team

Pat McAfee will be providing commentary on SmackDown. The radio host and former NFL punter will be providing colour analysis will Michael Cole on Friday nights. His first show was on the 16/4/21 episode, the SmackDown after WrestleMania 37.

Pat broke the news himself on Twitter before SmackDown aired

The move follows shakeups on commentary for Monday Night RAW, with Adnan Virk now being the lead voice for Monday Nights. In a statement on WWE.com, McAfee has said the following about the new position:

“For as long as I can remember WWE has been a company that I have admired, both for its incredible staying power of creating riveting entertainment and for its ability to connect people all over the globe,” said McAfee. “I’ve been fortunate to try a lot of cool professions but working for WWE was the one I looked forward to most. I am incredibly honored and grateful for the chance to give back to the business that has given me and many others so much and having the opportunity to sit at the same table that legends have graced is truly a dream come true. Now let’s go get it.”

McAfee has made a name for himself in many industries. His resume includes being a punter for the Indianapolis Colts, as well as being a host of his own radio show, The Pat McAfee show on Sirius XM. Pat is also no stranger to in-ring competition. His match against Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: XXX received high praise from fans and critics alike.

The new commentary structure for both main roster shows is as follows:

Monday Night RAW: Adnan Virk, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton.

Friday Night SmackDown: Michael Cole and Pat McAfee.

Former lead commentator of RAW Tom Phillips will now appear on 205 Live. Samoa Joe, who also provided commentary for the red brand, was part of WWE’s latest round of releases.
