New WWE Championship Introduced On SmackDown

Multiple members of the WWE roster have been informed that their services will no longer be required in the company.

The WWE Championship scene got a bit bigger on SmackDown as a new title was added.

Following the introduction of the Women’s North American Championship on NXT earlier in the year, fans and wrestlers have hoped and speculated that a women’s mid-card championship would also be introduced on the main roster. As announced by General Manager Nick Aldis on the November 8th episode of SmackDown, the Women’s United States Championship was officially unveiled. Aldis stated that it once again an opportunity for the women on the brand to “shatter glass ceilings” once more. The lineage of the men’s United States Championship was also referenced by commentary later in the show.

Although it is unknown how the inaugural champion will be crowned, Aldis confirmed that it will be contested for and will not be simply handed to a member of the roster. Further details are set to be announced in due time.

While not confirmed, it is expected that a Women’s Intercontinental Championship could be introduced on a future episode of Raw.

WWE NXT Women’s North American Championship Recently Changed Hands

At NXT Battleground, Kelani Jordan won a ladder match to become the first-ever Women’s North American Championship. Jordan would hold the title until Halloween Havoc until she lost to Fallon Henley in a gauntlet match, bringing to an end the first-ever reign of the new championship.
