New World Champion Gunther Addresses Goldberg WWE Raw Rumours

The new World Champion Gunther has given his thoughts on the rumours that Goldberg may have wanted to spoil the party on WWE Raw.

Once again making his way to the top of the men’s division, Gunther won the World Championship for a second time on the June 9th episode of Raw by defeating Jey Uso in the main event of the show.

Given that The Ring General has been booked strongly throughout most of his time in the company and former champion Uso has regularly competed since winning the title at WrestleMania, Gunther winning back the title was not the most shocking result. However, what did surprise fans was the way that the championship changed hands.

Gunther defeated Uso clean with a sleeper hold in a match that saw no interference from Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins or from Goldberg, who is rumoured to be facing the new champion later in the year as part of his final match.

While speaking with Sam Roberts on the Raw Recap podcast, the Raw star addressed the speculation that someone may have gotten involved to potentially spoil his big moment:

Sam Roberts: “Gunther, I say all of that to say congratulations, you’re the World Heavyweight Champion.”

Gunther: “Thank you, of course I am. You said that it caught everybody by surprise? I don’t know what’s surprising about this. I guess going in, it got perceived as like a ‘nothing’ match, like ‘just a ‘Mania rematch.’ And everybody was speculating like, Seth Rollins is [going to cash in or teasing cashing in] with his briefcase, Goldberg is going to show up to finally kick my ass.

“The reality is, when I was World Heavyweight Champion the first time, all of those big names, they stayed away from me, and for very good reason. Because ever since I arrived in this company, I’ve been the most dominant guy around here. And yes, I lost at WrestleMania and I lost to Jey Uso, but I’m going to give him credit. But this is a marathon, not a sprint. And in that case, nobody matches me. Nobody’s got the mental ability, nobody’s got the confidence, nobody’s got the stamina to last that long. It’s only me. I’m competing in my own class.”

Gunther Is Now A 2-Time World Champion

Gunther first won the World Title back at SummerSlam 2024. Following a victory in the King of the Ring Tournament, the Raw star defeated Damian Priest to win the championship for the first time.

H/t to WrestleZone.
