AEW Dynamite ended on a high as new Trios Champions were crowned in the main event of the Spring BreakThru special.
Taking place on the April 16th episode of Dynamite, Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta to dethrone The Death Riders and win the Trios Championships. The match was originally set to see HOOK team with Joe and Shiabata but it was announced at the top of the show that the former FTW Champion had been attacked by The Death Riders and was not cleared to compete, leading to Hobbs being announced as the replacement partner. The attack took place at the end of the previous week’s episode, where HOOK was seen vomiting in the ring.
The match saw Samoa Joe pick up the victory by choking out Jon Moxley, potentially foreshadowing a future World Championship match for the Samoan Submission Machine. After the match, the babyfaces celebrated with the new champions to end the historic show on a positive note.
Title Change On AEW Dynamite
This was the only championship to change hands on the show as The Hurt Syndicate successfully defended their Tag Team Championships against Gates of Agony. Also on the show, Mercedes Mone, Will Ospreay and Adam Page all advanced in their respective Owen Hart Tournaments and Josh Alexander made his AEW debut.
