The Rock has given fans a new look at the upcoming live-action remake of the hit Disney movie Moana.
On March 23, a full-length trailer was released to promote the adaptation that stars the Hollywood star and former WWE Champion. The clip shows the scene of Moana meeting Maui for the first time along with other highlights from the story that fans of the movie will be very familiar with. Rock is also heard saying the line “You’re Welcome”, which is the title of one of the hit songs of the movie.
Rock reprises his role as Demigod Maui, while Catherine Laga’aia will play the titular role. Auliʻi Cravalho voiced the role of Moana in the first 2 films. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who served as the songwriter for the original, also returned for the live-action remake.
The plot of the movie sees Moana, the daughter of a chief of a coastal village, being chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a relic with the goddess Te Fiti. When the island is struck by tragedy, Moana sets sail in search of Maui to help her save her homeland.
Along with grossing $687 million worldwide, the 2016 original was well-received by critics and also received 2 Oscar nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “How Far I’ll Go.”
The 2026 adaptation is set to be released on July 10.
The Rock Stars In Third Moana Film
Along with the original musical adventure film that was released a decade ago, a follow-up hit cinemas in 2024. Much like the original, Moana 2 was a commercial success. Grossing more than $1 billion worldwide at the box office, Moana 2 was the third highest-grossing film of 2024, only being beaten by Inside Out 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine.
The Moana franchise is the latest in hit Disney animated films to receive a live-action remake, with other titles being adapted, including Lilo and Stitch, The Lion King and Aladdin.
