A major title change took place on the Money in the Bank go-home episode of WWE SmackDown.
Taking place in the main event of the show on July 5th, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano defeated Austin Theory and Grayson Waller to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions. The match saw Waller attempt to strike Gargano but accidentally hit Theory instead. Capitalising on the miscommunication, DIY appeared to have the match won but Theory made his way back into the match. With Theory taken out once again, DIY hit the meeting in the middle on Waller but Theory placed Waller’s foot on the ropes at the last second. Gargano and Ciampa locked in the dual submissions to win the match and the titles.
The victory marks DIY’s first championships on the main roster after each man won the NXT singles and Tag Team Championships while on the black and gold brand. Theory and Waller won the titles back at WrestleMania 40 in a six-pack ladder match, which also saw Gargano and Ciampa compete in the match.
What Else Happened On WWE SmackDown?
Presenting the final build to Money in the Bank, the show opened with all the entrants in the men’s match brawling with Jey Uso and LA Knight standing tall over the rest of the field. Additionally, Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair defeated Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae as they continue to build momentum back to a rematch for the Women’s Tag Team Championships.
