Rey and Dominik Mysterio are the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. The victory marks the first time that a father and son have won the titles in WWE. Multiple teams of brothers have won the titles in WWE, but the Mysterio’s are the first parent and son team to capture the gold.

The title change happened on the WrestleMania Backlash event on May 16th, with Rey and Dominik defeating now former champions Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler. On the pre-show portion of the event, Ziggler and Roode attacked Dominik backstage. In a backstage segment before the match, the trainer said that Dom would not be able to compete, and Rey would need to find a new partner. Instead, Rey opted to go it alone.
After a period of Rey Mysterio being at a 2 on 1 disadvantage, Dominik made his way to the ring still selling his injuries. Dom eventually was tagged into the match and hit a frog splash to win and capture the tag team titles. This victory is Dominik’s first championship in WWE. For father Rey, this is his 5th tag team championship reign and his 15th championship overall in WWE.
The SmackDown Tag Team Championships were the only titles to change hands during the event. On the go-home edition of SmackDown, new WWE Women’s tag Team Champions were crowned.
