Many former WWE Superstars are now free agents, due to their 90 day non-compete clause now being completed. The former stars that were released in the June 2nd batch of WWE cuts can now freely appear and compete in any promotion that they choose. The names in the June 2nd releases were as follows:
- Braun Strowman
- Buddy Murphy
- Lana
- Ruby Riott
- Santana Garrett
It should be noted that Aleister Black was also part of the June 2nd releases. However, due to a contractual error, Black only had a 30 day non-compete clause, which is standard for NXT stars as opposed to main roster talent. The former NXT Champion made a surprise debut on AEW Dynamite on the July 7th show. He now goes by the name of Malakai Black in All Elite Wrestling.
Former WWE Stars Reveal New Names
Many wrestlers have been posting cryptic updates and name changes on their social media accounts. Buddy Murphy has revealed that he will now be going by the name of Buddy Matthews. Buddy’s new character seems to be a more darker version than fans are used to, with vignettes showing the former Cruiserweight Champion being released from a detention facility.
Ruby Riott will be going by the name of Ruby Soho, and has also been posting vignettes on her social media, seemingly promoting a return in the near future:
The first show that these stars can appear will be the September 1st episode of AEW Dynamite, which is the go-home show to the All Out pay per view on Sunday September 5th.
