A backstage update has been provided on John Cena’s custom introduction for AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel in Australia.
Prior to their final match together at the international Premium Live Event, Cena handed the ring announcer Alicia Taylor a piece of paper to give Styles a different introduction to what he is used to. With references to TNA and New Japan’s Bullet Club, Styles looked legitimately taken aback by what he was hearing:
“The definition of Total Nonstop Action. The Ace and Undisputed Boss of The Bullet Club. It is our honor as fans and my honor as an opponent to see if he can beat up John Cena one final time. He is the face that runs the place, the phenomenon AJ Styles!”
With fans online then speculating that The Phenomenal One had no idea about the custom intro, Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live confirmed that it was the case:
“Apparently John Cena wrote the ring intro for AJ Styles and AJ had no idea.”
AJ Styles Tried To Beat Up John Cena One Final Time
Styles’ and Cena’s final battle was certainly a match to remember one way or another. Competing in front of a rabid Aussie crowd, the match has been decribed by many as a love letter to pro wrestling. With both men busting out finishers of their greatest rivals, including Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt and The Undertaker, the live crowd and commentary were in disbelief over what they were seeing, especially when Cena teased that he was about to hit a 619 on Styles, which was cut off.
In the end, Cena hit a Tombstone and an Attitude Adjustment to stand tall over Styles. Cena now has 4 appearances and 2 matches left on his WWE retirement tour.
