More information has been provided on The John Cena Classic, which is very much a work in progress at this time.
Cena appeared live once more at Backlash to deliver his historic announcement that was heavily hyped on social media ahead of time. The big news was that there would be a tournament to introduce a new champion soon, with the show and the title being named after the 17-time World Champion. Additionally, the winner would be determined via fan vote as opposed to who wins the most matches.
In a follow-up by Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, no date or venue has been locked in for the event. However, one source within the company noted that December would be a logical spot on the calendar, and would also mark 1 year since Cena competed in his retirement match. While the PLE calendar has not been fully announced, 2025 saw a lengthy gap between Survivor Series and the 2026 Royal Rumble.
Which Network Will Air The John Cena Classic?
Although the platform where the show will air also remains undetermined, Netflix expressed their interest “almost immediately.” Currently, Netflix is the home of WWE Raw for the majority of the world. For PLEs, fans in the USA watch the show on ESPN, while international fans watch on Netflix. For specials such as Saturday Night’s Main Event, these are aired on Peacock in the States and on YouTube internationally.
