Mercedes Mone has addressed her recent title defence and the response from the fans.
Taking place at AEW All In on August 25th inside Wembley Stadium, The CEO successfully defended the TBS Championship against Britt Baker. Taking place 3rd from last and directly after Will Ospreay defeated MJF to regain the International Championship, the fans had seen a lot of action by this point. The match received mixed reviews from the fans with some stating that is one of the weaker matches on the show and did not need to go 17 minutes.
Writing about her experiences in her Mone Mag, The CEO noted that she has a lot of experience performing in stadiums and is aware that crowd reactions take time to travel when you are in the ring:
“I’ve performed in stadium shows before, so I was expecting to hear mixed things from the crowd. In a stadium ring, it takes a while to hear crowd reactions. You have to wait for the sound to rise all the way up and then come back down. You have to take this into consideration to mentally prepare and adjust but it’s definitely a factor.“
Continuing, Mone addressed the mixed reactions to her match with Baker, adding that there was some tiredness from the audience given their match took place 3 and a half hours after the first match:
“I’ve heard a lot of mixed reactions to my All In match with Britt. I had a really good time out there with her. I did sense some audience fatigue. It’s only natural being third to last, as the crowd had already seen over 10 matches before ours. They arrived at 5:30, and by the time we came out, it was around 9:00. That’s a long time but, at the same time, amazing because AEW really gave them their money’s worth. I could hear some DMD and CEO chants but again it’s harder in a stadium. Britt told me later, that on video you can hear crowd reactions much better and that there were more crowd reactions than we felt.”
Mone won the TBS Championship back at Double or Nothing, defeating former rival Willow Nightingale to capture her first championship in AEW.
Mercedes Mone Comments On Possible WWE Return
Prior to her AEW debut back at the Big Business special in March, Mone remained on hiatus after recovering from an injury sustained in a match for NJPW. Although Mercedes Mone did eventually become All Elite, The CEO recently stated in a previous newsletter that a WWE return may have been on the cards.
