Malakai Black is officially gone from AEW.
After fans suspected for weeks that it was only a matter of time before Black left the company, confirmation came on Monday, February 10th. It was first suspected that Black had exited the promotion when he was removed from the roster page. Shortly afterwards, Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that Black is now a free agent, meaning that he is free to show up for any promotion as soon as he pleases. If WWE is Black’s next destination, he could make a shock appearance on the February 10th episode of Raw.
News regarding Malakai Black’s time in AEW coming to an end first broke at the start of the year. After Will Ospreay defeated Buddy Matthews on Dynamite, Ospreay cut a promo stating that both Matthews and Brody King are great wrestlers and should break out on their own. Shortly after, it was reported that Black was either finishing up with AEW or had already made his final appearance.
Malakai Black In AEW
One of the most shocking arrivals in AEW history, Black made a surprise appearance on the July 7th Dynamite by attacking Cody Rhodes and Arn Anderson. Black’s arrival was surprising as it occurred just over a month after he was cut from WWE. However, it was later reported that due to a logistical error, Black was never given a main roster deal and only had the 30 day non compete attached.
Black was a one time Trios Champion while in the company alongside King and Matthews. His final match took place at Full Gear 2024, where he and King successfully challenged for the Tag Team Championships.
Since Black’s departure, King and Matthews have continued teaming together as the Hounds of Hell.
