Kevin Dunn, one of the longest serving employees in WWE, is set to leave the promotion after more than 3 decades.
As reported by PWInsider, Dunn informed those within the company that he would be exiting during Christmas week. It is stated that the reason behind the decision to retire was “changes made internally post-Endeavor acquisition” and that Dunn was “never going to do anything that was dictated” to him. It is noted that it is more a difference of opinion in terms of TV production as opposed to creative differences.
The report also states that Dunn was never asked to lave and the decision to retire was entirely his choice. Those within the company believe that the removal of Vince McMahon from creative and being replaced by Triple H have played into the decision to depart.
The departure has also been corroborated by Fightful Select, who add that several WWE talent were shocked by the move and that Dunn has been missing more shows than usual as of late.
It is unknown from will replace Dunn at this time. While at one point Michael Mansury was the natural successor to Dunn, Mansury is now a part of AEW.
Who Is Kevin Dunn?
Fans best know Dunn as the head of production, giving WWE their distinctive presentation and look for the past 30 years. Dunn’s style presented the product as more of an entertainment show than a wrestling program, appealing more to the casual viewer. Hardcore fans were more divided over Dunn’s style, which featured multiple unnecessary camera cuts and crash zooms.
