AEW star Kazuchika Okada has made history by breaking a long-standing company record.
On August 11, The Rainmaker reached 509 days as the AEW Continental Champion, the longest a member of the roster has held a championship since its 2019 inception. The previous record was held by current WWE star Jade Cargill, who was TBS Champion for 508 days.
Shortly after his AEW debut, Okada turned heel for the first time in his career by aligning himself with The Young Bucks. On the March 24, 2024 edition of Dynamite, the NJPW legend defeated Eddie Kingston to capture his first championship in the company. Okada has held onto the title ever since with victories over the likes of Buddy Matthews, Mike Bailey and most notably, former rival Kenny Omega. The latest chapter in the Okada and Omega rivalry was written at All In: Texas, where The Rainmaker defeated The Cleaner to hold both the Continental and International Championships, being crowned the first AEW Unified Champion in the process.
Kazuchika Okada Opponent Seemingly Set For AEW Forbidden Door
Over the past few weeks on Dynamite and Collision, Okada has crossed paths with former World Champion Swerve Strickland. The two are set to collide at Forbidden Door in London on August 24 with the Unified Title at stake. If Strickland defeats Okada, he will become the first AEW star to have held the Unified and World Championships.
