Jon Moxley IWGP World Title Defence Confirmed For AEW Forbidden Door

Jon Moxley has found out who he will be defending the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door.

Jon Moxley is set for a major championship defence at the next AEW pay-per-view.

Following on from his successful defence of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against EVIL at the NJPW Dominion pay-per-view on June 9th, Moxley was confronted by the man he defeated back at Windy City Riot to become the champion, Tetsuya Naito. Moxley accepted the challenge.

Moxley will be hoping to keep the streak of successful title defences at the crossover show going as the title did not change hands at the previous 2 shows with Jay White being victorious at the 2022 show and Sanada the following year.

The updated line-up for AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door is as follows:

  • Swerve Strickland (c) vs. Will Ospreay – Singles match for the AEW World Championship
  • Mark Briscoe vs. Konosuke Takeshita vs. TBA Ladder match for the vacant TNT Championship
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone vs. NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer – Title vs. Title match
  • Toni Storm (c) vs. Mina Shirakawa – Singles match for the AEW Women’s Championship
  • Jon Moxley (c) vs. Tetsuya Naito – Singles match for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship

Jon Moxley Praised By Fellow AEW Star

Moxley made history earlier in the year when he became the first wrestler to win the top championship in NJPW, AEW and WWE. Recognising his accomplishments in wrestling, Bryan Danielson said the following to Justin Barrasso in a recent interview in Sports Illustrated:

“To me, he is among the very best in the world. I’m super proud of Mox. But it’s less pride I feel, and more admiration. Mox did this, he created this. He has a mindset unlike anyone else. There will never be another Jon Moxley. There is no one like him. I admire what he’s been able to do. I admire the risks he’s taken and the performances he puts in every single time he goes out there.”
