John Cena Wins Intercontinetal Championship On WWE Raw

After more than 2 decades, John Cena has captured the Intercontinental Championship.

In the opening match of the November 10 episode of the show, Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the title. The closing moments of the match saw Cena counter a frog splash into an Attitude Adjustment to pin Mysterio and win the Intercontinental Championship. Mysterio tried every trick in the book, including attempting to get counted out, disqualified and take advantage of an exposed turnbuckle, but Cena had an answer for everything. Following the victory, Cena told the Boston fans that the champ is here as pyro went off in the TD Garden.

The match was put together on short notice as Mysterio interrupted Cena’s hometown celebration, stating that he felt disrespected. After Mysterio claimed that he could beat Cena anytime, any place, Triple H made the title match official.

The victory brings to an end Mysterio’s reign at 204 days. Mysterio won the title at WrestleMania 41 in a 4-way match on night 2.

John Cena Finally Wins Intercontinental Championship

Although Cena is one of the most decorated performers in WWE history with 17 World Championships, multiple WrestleMania main events and more to his name, the Hollywood star never held the Intercontinental Championship in his 23-year career until now.

While not yet announced, it is expected that Cena will put the title on the line at his scheduled match at Survivor Series, and in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event if he remains the champion until then.
