John Cena Will Retire From WWE Before Very Specific Date

WWE John Cena

John Cena has detailed exactly when he plans on retiring from in-ring competition.

The WWE legend has been more open about winding down his career in recent interviews, noting that the last match is not too far away. Having had a match every year since 2002, Cena has remained a part of the WWE family despite now being one of the top stars in Hollywood.

While fans are aware that the 16-time World Champion is thinking about his final match, Cena has now given an insight into a specific date that will mark his retirement.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Cena admitted that he never wants to show up in WWE for no reason and wants to have that drive. In regards to the date, the 46-year-old Superstar will be retired before he reaches the age of 50:

“I made a promise to the consumer early on, to WWE fans, ’cause I know how tough it is to be a fan. You gotta come out of pocket — and WWE has a ton of content — it takes a lot to be a passionate fan and our fanbase is passionate and global. I never wanted to go out there just for the sake of going out there. And I’m gonna be 47 this year. I feel great. So inside I feel great, but I know what it takes to be a WWE performer night in and night out and I don’t ever wanna just go out there and do it to do it. I wanna have the passion — the same passion as the fanbase — and I wanna give them exactly what they give me. The miles on the speedometer say, ‘Hey, that’s gotta be done before 50.'”

In a separate interview, John Cena revealed that he wants to remain with WWE even after he retires, potentially in a mentor or coaching role.

Will John Cena Be At WrestleMania?

“I don’t know if I’ll be free that weekend, but it is a weekend and movies don’t shoot on the weekends,” he playfully said. “But when I say I’m done — in WWE, they say never say never and a lot of people retire and come back — I’m just being honest with myself. There’s such a great new generation now as well. It’s time to pass the electric energy on to the folks that can be there every day.”
In his career, Cena won the Royal Rumble match on 2 separate occasions. Having been a part of the match many times, here is a recap of every John Cena appearance in the Royal Rumble match.
