John Cena has looked back on his WWE career and why one match from his WrestleMania record was the toughest of them all.
WrestleMania 40 marked Cena’s 17th and final match at The Show of Shows, which saw him defeat Cody Rhodes to win his record-breaking 17th World Championship after turning heel the month before.
With a WrestleMania record to rival the all-time greats, Cena has faced off against some of the biggest stars in company history on The Grandest Stage while experiencing the highs and lows of winning and losing the top prize in the industry. However, when it comes to one particular loss, the Hollywood star has named it not only his toughest Mania match, but the toughest of his entire career.
Appearing at FanExpo in Boston, as covered by Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, Cena admitted his cinematic match against Bray Wyatt inside The Firefly Funhouse at WrestleMania 36 was the toughest, as he was very much the one on the back foot:
“It’s the match I had in the Firefly Fun House,” said Cena, referencing a match that took place without a crowd during the pandemic. “The reason that opponent was tough–and I know it was against Bray Wyatt–was because that was more or less a match against me. I’ll say that was my toughest match.”
John Cena Retirement Tour Rolls On Following WrestleMania Victory And SummerSlam Defeat
Now that Cena is no longer WWE Champion after losing the title to Cody Rhodes in the main event of SummerSlam night 2, the 17-time champion looks to no longer be chasing the top title. Set to be in action at Clash in Paris, Cena will face off against Logan Paul.
