John Cena has been asked about the Brock Lesnar return that has divided fans given the controversial nature that Lesnar has been on hiatus for 2 years.
Keeping the tradition alive of having a major return take place at the Biggest Party of the Summer each year, SummerSlam 2025 closed out with Brock Lesnar making a shock return and laying out Cena with an F5 to stand tall.
Although Triple H and many fans online have expressed their delight in having Lesnar back on the roster, others have expressed their anger and disappointment over bringing back the former World Champion while the sexual assault lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE, which has Lesnar named 44 times, remains ongoing.
While speaking with Adam Glyn, Cena was asked about Lesnar making his return at the show, to which Cena responded, “They deal ’em, I play ’em”:
“I’ve been saying the same thing for 25 years: They deal ’em, I play ’em.”
“I’m just really excited. We’ve got like 12 of these things left. I think SummerSlam was an indication from the audience where everybody kind of knows we’re closing our book. And just because I close my book in December, that doesn’t mean the WWE closes its books. They’ve got to continue their programming going forward. So, they’re just trying to make the most exciting shows for the fans and for the dozen of them I got left, they deal ‘em, I play ‘em.”
John Cena And Brock Lesnar Have Previous History In WWE
Assuming that a match between Lesnar and Cena is set for the enar future, this will not eb the first time that the veterans have faced off in the ring. Along with their rookie runs back in the early 2000s, Cena was Lesnar’s first opponent when the former UFC fighter made his return to wrestling in 2012. While Cena defeated Lesnar at Extreme Rules in what was Lesnar’s comeback match, Lesnar famously destroyed Cena at SummerSlam 2014 in what was a squash match.
