Ilja Dragunov now reigns supreme as NXT Champion.
Dragunov defeated Carmelo Hayes at No Mercy to win the top prize in NXT for the first time in his career.
As with all Dragunov matches, the match was very physical from the outset, with the intense challenger hitting Hayes with everything he had. Despite hitting Dragunov with multiple H Bombs, Hayes would survive again and again, much to the frustration of Dragunov.
The ending of the match would see Dragunov climb to the top rope and hit an avalanche H Bomb to win the match and the championship, ending Melo’s reign.
Although this is Dragunov’s first reign as NXT Champion, this is not the first time that The Mad Dragon has held good in WWE. Dragunov was the man who ended the lengthy reign of WALTER (now GUNTHER) to become the WWE United Kingdom Champion.
After the match, Dragunov embraced his challenger, respecting that he had been in a war.
This was the second title change to take place that night, as Trick Williams defeated Dominik Mysterio to become the new North American Champion earlier in the night.
