Gunther looks to be staying with WWE until further notice.
Capping off another stellar year in the company, The Ring General is reportedly in the final stages of securing a new contract, becoming the latest in a long list of stars who have chosen to remain with WWE for the foreseeable future as contract news has been a constant talking point throughout 2024.
The news was first broken by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, who stated that the World Heavyweight Champion has either reached the end of the negotiation stage or has just committed to a new deal with WWE:
We are told that GUNTHER has is either at the end of discussions or has just signed a new multi-year deal with the company.
The news was corroborated by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, who adds that the deal should be done this year providing there are no extenuating circumstances. Additionally, the deal is said to be multi-year and WWE has been thrilled with Gunther’s performances. One source told Fightful Select that the Raw star is “among the most professional talents they had ever worked with.”
Gunther Has Another Dominant 2024
Much like 2023, The Ring General has been pretty much unstoppable. Beginning the year by extending his record-breaking Intercontinental Championship reign, Gunther suffered the first of only 2 losses at WrestleMania as he dropped the title to Sami Zayn. Not phased by the loss, the Raw star turned his attention to the top prize on the brand. Winning the King of the Ring Tournament, Gunther was granted a shot at Damian Priest’s World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. Thanks to some help from Finn Balor, Gunther was able to defeat Preist and win his first World Championship on the main roster. During his 122-day reign, The Ring General has only suffered one loss, which took place at Crown Jewel against Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes. As a result of the victory, Rhodes won the first-ever Crown Jewel Championship.
