Gunther Admits Last Few Months In WWE Have Not Been Ideal

Gunther has spoke about the past few months in WWE and how things have been far from ideal for him.

Gunther has looked back on the past few months of his WWE run and how things have not gone entirely to plan.

Following his arrival in WWE, The Ring General has been a near-unstoppable force. Breaking the record as the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in history, rarely pinned and often putting on the match of the night, Gunther took things one step further in 2024 when he won the King of the Ring tournament and defeated Damian Priest at SummerSlam to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

However, following the triumph in the summer, the rest of the year was not ideal for the Raw star, something that the World Champion is very aware of. Losing to Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel and part of a rivalry with Damian Priest where his confidence was apparently shaken, fans struggled to connect with the once dominant champion.

While speaking with Lewis Browning of The Daily MailThe Ring General admitted he did not enjoy the past few months but looks to return to form in the lead-up to WrestleMania 41:

I don’t think the last few months were ideal for me. I lost to Cody (Rhodes), and then everything that — that feud with (Damian) Priest, it didn’t allow me to show the best side of me, if that makes sense. But I think now I’m back to my old self. I feel my mojo again.

Gunther Addresses Upcoming WrestleMania Match

Once again walking into WrestleMania as a champion, Gunther’s opponent has already been confirmed as he will put the title on the line against Royal Rumble winner Jey Uso. Addressing the upcoming match, the World Champion also added that he would have preferred a different opponent in Las Vegas in April:

‘I’m not interested in wrestling Jey at WrestleMania,’ he adds. ‘I was looking for somebody who is one of the last few remaining guys on the roster that I would say are maybe one step ahead of me, and it would have been nice to be in there with one of them, to bring them down one inch and make a step up.

‘I think the Rumble was packed like never before. With Jey, there was basically the underdog winning in all of this. But also, on the other hand, he’s maybe the most popular guy we have right now, and people would really want to see him succeed. And they’re strapped in to follow him along this whole ride to WrestleMania now.

‘There’s all those dream matches out there. But on the other hand, I think if you have somebody like Jey that has such a movement behind him and such support from the audience, you have got to do something with that. And it just creates a special situation that you cannot make up. This either happens or it doesn’t happen, and when it’s there, you have to do something with it.

‘I think it’s good that it happened. But on the other side, I say stay away from me. I must have wrestled him, I don’t know, 30, 40 times including live events. And I’ve got to give it to him, in general, he’s a very likable guy, easy to talk to, and very warm to other people, always very friendly and very nice.

‘It almost reminds me a little bit when Daniel Bryan had the yes movement going. It’s a special situation right now. And good for him to be in that position right now. I think he deserves that. But like I said, leave me out.’
