Goldberg has brought his in-ring career to an end, losing to WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in his retirement match.
Competing in the main event of the July 12 Saturday Night’s Main Event special in Atlanta, Georgia, the Hall of Famer was unable to defeat The Ring General. Driving himself into the barricade in the early stages as Gunther dodged the spear, Goldberg was then on the defensive as Gunther hit his signature strikes. The 4-time World Champion made his comeback and attempted another spear, but this time hit veteran official Charles Robinson.
With the official down, the World Champion targeted Goldberg’s injured knee and ripped the knee brace off the Hall of Famer. Gunther then shoved Goldberg’s son Gage, who hopped the barricade before being dragged away by security.
Back in the ring, Goldberg hit the spear and the Jackhammer onto Gunther for a near fall. The closing moments of the match saw Gunther lock in the sleeper to win the match via technical submission.
Goldberg Thanks The Fans After WWE Loss
Although the WCW legend was unable to end his career with a win, he did get the opportunity ot address the fans when all was said and done. However, shortly after the Hall of Famer began his promo, the feed cut off. During what was broadcast, Goldberg apologised for being subpar and thanked the fans for all their support over the years.
At the time of writing, there has been no additional footage uploaded of the promo.
