Drew McIntyre Wins Big At WWE WrestleMania 40

Drew McIntyre wins big

Drew McIntyre has finally fulfilled his destiny.

Defeating Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40, McIntyre has achieved his dream of winning a top championship with fans in attendance. The victory crowns McIntyre as the new World Heavyweight Champion and brings the inaugural reign of Seth Rollins to an end. Rollins first won the title after being victorious in a tournament that culminated at Night of Champions 2023.

Receiving a special entrance, bagpipers introduced The Scottish Warrior before the music officially kicked in. Rollins also received a custom entrance as a band of accordion players, banjo players and saxophone players played the familiar medley before the music kicked in.

The match nearly set a new record as McIntyre hit a Claymore onto Rollins immediately after the bell rang, but only led to a 2 count. Shortly afterwards Rollins hit the stop, but McIntyre also kicked out. Rollins would later counter a Claymore into a Pedigree and Stomp but McIntyre kicked out at the very last second. McIntyre hit yet another Claymore after attempting a GTS, but once again Rollins just survived. 2 more Claymores sealed the deal for McIntyre.

McIntyre earned the right to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship after being victorious inside the Elimination Chamber in Perth. In the weeks since The Scottish Warrior has constantly explained why the victory means so much to him while also firing shots in the direction of CM Punk, who provided guest commentary for the match. For Rollins, the defeat is especially crushing as he and Cody Rhodes were defeated by The Rock and Roman Reigns on night 1.

Drew McIntyre Previously Won The WWE Championship Twice

McIntyre first realised his dream at WrestleMania 36 as he defeated Brock Lesnar in the main event to win the WWE Championship for the first time. However, due to restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, McIntyre won the championship in an empty Performance Center. McIntyre remained champion for most of the year and regained the title after a brief loss to Randy Orton. McIntyre lost the title to The Miz via Money in the Bank cash-in in February 2021 and never regained the championship when restrictions were lifted.
