Drew McIntyre Suffers Heartbreak At WWE Clash At The Castle, Fails To Win World Championship

Drew McIntyre Confirms WWE Re-Signing; Addresses If There Was The Possibility Of Competing Elsewhere

Once again, Drew McIntyre is screwed.

In front of a packed arena in Glasgow, Scotland at Clash at the Castle, McIntyre was defeated by Damian Priest to once again fail to win the World Championship inside the United Kingdom. Receiving a thunderous ovation from the Scottish fans and given a special entrance on the night, this was very much McIntyre having the home-field advantage with the fans firmly behind him and made the end result much more devastating. Although the end result appeared to be a given, everything changed in the final stages.

With the referee down, McIntyre hit the Claymore and a second referee ran to the ring, which turned out to be CM Punk. Punk hit a low blow on McIntyre to allow Priest to take advantage, pin McIntyre and retain the championship in front of a very deflated Glasgow crowd, once again sucking the air out of the arena in a similar fashion to 2022.

Drew McIntyre Does Not Win 4th World Championship

McIntyre famously won the WWE Championship twice in 2020 but both victories took place inside an empty Performance Center and with no fans in attendance due to restrictions in place from the COVID-19 pandemic. Continually looking for the big title win in a packed venue, McIntyre looked destined to win the Universal Championship from Roman Reigns at the first Clash at the Castle event in Cardiff in 2022. However, a debuting Solo Sikoa would cause the night to end on a sour note for The Scottish Warrior.

McIntyre looked to finally put right the wrings at WrestleMania 40 as he defeated Seth Rollins to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. However, due to a post-match attack from CM Punk and a successful cash-in by Damian Priest, the reign ended just over 5 minutes later as an irate McIntyre watched on.
