Dirty Dom is a champion once again.
As seen on the July 18th episode of WWE NXT, Dominik Mysterio defeated Wes Lee to become the new North American Champion.
Lee appeared to have the match in control, always aware of the presence of Rhea Ripley throughout the contest, who accompanied Mysterio to ringside.
The numbers game proved to be too much for both Lee and the referee, as remaining Judgment Day members Finn Balor and Damian Priest got involved. Balor distracted the referee while Priest attempted to strike Lee with the title. The now former champion managed to evade the attack from Senor Money in the Bank, but not from Mami.
With the referee still distracted, Ripley struck Lee in the head with her own championship, knocking out Lee. Dominik Mysterio then covered Wes Lee to win the match and become the new champion.
The victory marks Mysterio’s second championship reign in WWE. The Judgment Day member was previously a tag team champion with father Rey Mysterio.
With Ripley holding the Women’s World Championship and Priest holding the Money in the Bank briefcase alongside new North American Champion Mysterio, Finn Balor is the only member of the group without a championship or guaranteed opportunity. Balor hopes to change this at SummerSlam, as he challenges Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship.
