The pro wrestling docuseries Dark Side of the Ring will return for season 7 in the summer, and the topics for the latest series have been revealed!
The popular VICE TV series will make its return on July 23 with a double episode, followed by one episode a week for the remainder. Kicking off the latest season will be a 3-part special on pro wrestling promotion Total Nonstop action [TNA] and its founder, Jeff Jarrett.
Launched in 2002, TNA became the number 2 wrestling promotion in the United States following the demise of WCW and ECW at the start of the millennium. While TNA was nowhere near as successful as WWE, the company did provide fans with an alternative form of action. Along with the unique six sided ring, TNA also saw the likes of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels all become major stars in the pro wrestling world.
Not without its controversies, the company also became infamous for some of the nonsensical stipulation matches, choosing to go head-to-head with WWE in early 2010, and Victory Road 2011. The main event of that show saw Jeff Hardy, who was in no fit state to compete, wrestle a short match against Sting in the main event.
Vice TV president Pete Gaffney said the following about Dark Side of the Ring and the show’s return later in the year:

Wrestling is one of America’s most influential pop culture phenomenons, and this series further explores the blurred lines between wrestling’s spectacle and reality, ultimately uncovering the truths behind the stories fans thought they knew.”
