CM Punk once again won the World Championship at SummerSlam, but it was Seth Rollins who had the last laugh when all was said and done.
Competing in the main event of night 1 on August 2, Punk defeated Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship, becoming one of the select few to defeat The Ring General in the process. The end of the match saw Punk escape the sleeper to hit the GTS on a bloody Gunther twice to win the match and the title.
However, shortly after the match ended, Rollins’ music hit and The Visionary came out on crutches. While it appeared that Rollins was injured following the events that occurred back at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Rollins instead threw the crutches onto the ground, confirming reports that the injury was not that severe or possibly non-existent. Grabbing the briefcase, Rollins stormed to the ring and brawled with Punk. After striking Punk with the briefcase repeatedly, Rollins handed the briefcase to official Jessica Carr, making the cash-in official. One stomp later, Rollins defeated Punk to win back the title.
The cash-in was also one decade on from Rollins’ legendary moment at WrestleMania 31, which saw him interrupt the main event, cash in his Money in the Bank contract and win the WWE Championship for the first time in his career.
CM Punk And Seth Rollins Rivalry To Continue
