CM Punk Injured At WWE Royal Rumble; Off WrestleMania

CM Punk suffered a major injury in the Royal Rumble and is expected to be out for up to 6 months.

As reported by Dave Meltzer, Punk’s injury was unconfirmed by WWE sources but is believed to be a torn tricep. It is noted that during the Rumble match a doctor checked on Punk and the former World Champion acknowledged that there was something wrong with his tricep. There is a belief that the injury took place after Punk took a DDT from Drew McIntyre. In regards to the next steps, Punk is expected to publicly address his injury on Raw and is likely to confirm the timeline of recovery.

The report has been corroborated by PWInsider, who adds that surgery is likely to be required along with up to 6 months of rehabilitation. With a return around July, this means that Punk will not be able to appear at Elimination Chamber and more importantly, WrestleMania. With Punk off the card for the biggest show of the year, the World Heavyweight Championship match will need to be altered as Seth Rollins vs. Punk looked to be the direction the company was moving in.

The injury comes at the worst time for Punk who returned at Survivor Series and intended to main event WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. With Punk off the card and Brock Lesnar extremely unlikely to be a part of the show, 2 matches have been forcibly changed in the past week.

Punk previously tore his tricep in AEW and was out for 9 months. It has been noted that it is believed that his left arm was injured in the Royal Rumble and he injured his right arm in AEW.

CM Punk Injured In Televised Return Match

The Royal Rumble saw Punk have his first televised match almost 10 years to the day since he had the final match of his first run. Competing in the 2014 Rumble, Punk infamously walked out of WWE the next night and would not return until 2023. Entering the match at number 27, Punk would last until the final 2 before being eliminated by Cody Rhodes.

Features of Wrestling would like to wish CM Punk a full and speedy recovery.
