Chelsea Green has built a career around maximising her minutes. Known for her larger-than-life personality, comedic timing and willingness to fully commit to a character, Green has transformed herself from a promising independent wrestler into one of WWE’s most entertaining Superstars.
Green gained early exposure to WWE when she appeared as a contestant on the sixth season of WWE Tough Enough in 2015. Although she did not win the competition, this would not be the end of her WWE journey.
Her breakthrough came when she joined Impact Wrestling in 2016. Initially competing under the name Chelsea, Green was eventually transformed into Laurel Van Ness, an unhinged and increasingly chaotic character who became one of the most memorable personalities in the Knockouts division. Known as “The Hot Mess”, the gimmick saw her portray an increasingly unstable woman who embraced a glamorous but chaotic appearance, and it quickly became one of the defining acts of Impact Wrestling’s women’s division.
After leaving Impact Wrestling in 2018, Green continued to work across the wrestling world, including appearances for Lucha Underground and various independent promotions. She also competed at the inaugural All In event in 2018, further increasing her profile before making another attempt to reach WWE.
Green signed with WWE and reported to the Performance Center in Orlando in 2018. Her arrival represented the culmination of several years of work outside the company, but her first WWE run would prove to be one of the most frustrating periods of her career.
Green’s time in NXT was repeatedly interrupted by injuries. Most notably, she suffered a broken wrist during an NXT television taping in March 2019. Despite the setback, she eventually returned to action and made her televised NXT debut later that year. She also appeared on WWE’s main roster, including a match against Charlotte Flair on Raw in December 2019.
Green’s WWE journey appeared to be gathering momentum, but injuries continued to disrupt her progress. She eventually made her official main roster debut in November 2020, only to suffer another injury almost immediately. Green was released in 2021.
Green returned to the independent wrestling scene and worked for several promotions, including Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling before making her WWE return as a surprise entrant in the Women’s Royal Rumble Match. Her comeback was deliberately memorable for all the wrong reasons: she was eliminated almost immediately, lasting only a matter of seconds in the match. WWE officially described her elimination as a record-setting five seconds.
Green quickly established herself as WWE’s ultimate complainer, portraying an entitled, demanding personality who constantly believed she deserved better treatment, known as a “Karen.” Her habit of filing complaints with authority figures and questioning why she was not being treated like the biggest star in the company became one of her defining characteristics.
Green also became a successful tag team wrestler during her second WWE run. She initially formed an alliance with Sonya Deville before being paired with Piper Niven. The unlikely duo became WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions in July 2023, giving Green her first WWE championship. Their reign lasted 154 days.
Green’s popularity continued to grow despite often being positioned as a comedic heel rather than a traditional main-event contender. Her ability to get reactions from the audience made her one of WWE’s most reliable performers when it came to entertaining segments. That combination of comedy and championship success reached another level in December 2024.
WWE introduced the Women’s United States Championship, giving the women’s division another singles title to compete for. Green defeated Bianca Belair and Blair Davenport in the tournament before defeating Bayley to reach the final.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14, 2024, Green defeated Michin to become the first-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion. Green held the title for 131 days before losing it to Zelina Vega in April 2025. She would regain the championship later that year, defeating Giulia on November 7 to become the first two-time Women’s United States Champion. Her second reign lasted 56 days.
Around the same period, Green formed an unlikely partnership with Ethan Page. The pair eventually won the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship in November 2025, defeating Mr. Iguana and La Hiedra.
After continuing to establish herself as one of WWE’s most entertaining personalities, Green entered the SummerSlam picture when WWE announced that an Interim Women’s Championship would be awarded due to Rhea Ripley’s injury. Green defeated Kiana James on the July 24 episode of SmackDown to qualify for the championship ladder match.
At SummerSlam, Green competed against Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Charlotte Flair and Lash Legend in a five-woman ladder match for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship. Against expectations, Green climbed the ladder and captured the championship, giving her the biggest singles victory of her career.
