Booker T Believes AEW Is "A Retirement Spot"

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has let his opinions be known on AEW once more, this time when it comes to how the veteran performers have been treated in the organisation.

Along with showcasing the stars of today such as Adam Page, Will Ospreay and Toni Storm, All Elite Wrestling has frequently utilised veteran performers to either work with each other or the rising stars. From Adam Copeland to Christian Cage to Sting, who had his final match at Revolution 2024,

A veteran performer in his own right, Booker T is now focused on calling the action on NXT as opposed to competing in the ring, but did have a match at the start of the year. Additionally, the 6-time World Champion has also never stated that he is officially retired.

Discussing AEW on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T admitted that he wished the promotion was around when he was still active, noting that they “pay you not to work”:

“I wish they had AEW around when I was doing this thing. I would have just camped out. Made me a little tent. I would have been going nowhere, man. I’m serious. They pay you not to work in AEW.”

“What Has Ric Flair Done In AEW?”: Booker T

Continuing, the NXT announcer pointed out that Ric Flair is still under contract with the company, but has not done much since becoming All Elite. Additionally, despite calling AEW a “retirement spot”, Booker T did acknowledge that there is a reason why a lot of the veterans have signed with the promotion to potentially close out their careers:

“Ric Flair is still under contract [with AEW] from what I’ve been hearing. What has he done? What has Ric Flair done for AEW? It’s a safe haven. It’s definitely a retirement spot, if you’re definitely looking to wrap this up in the right way. I get it, man. I get it. Seriously.”
