Backstage News Regarding CM Punk's WWE Return

CM Punk is back in WWE, but it appears that not everyone was aware of it or even happy about it.

Just when fans in Chicago thought they saw it all at Survivor Series 2023, the show closed with Cult of Personality ringing through the arena and a rapturous applause from inside the Allstate Arena. According to reports, how this return was orchestrated and some being angered by the news has been revealed.

As reported by Fightful Select, Punk and Triple H had an extended conversation on November 19 that was said to “mend fences” between both sides. The talks began when rumours died down as to maximise the effect of the shocking conclusion to Survivor Series.

Backstage, a section was cleared out to make way for Punk and Triple H himself took over production to flash the copyright logo onscreen and to hit Punk’s music.

In regards to who was told, talent and head writers were not informed, with Triple H, Michael Hayes and Bruce Prichard needing to discuss a change to the main event, but it was not told what that change would be.

The reaction from the talent is said to be mixed, with some being excited and some being upset. As seen by fan footage, Seth Rollins had to be restrained by staff, but of course this could be setting up for a future match.

Backstage, it was said that Drew McIntyre was upset, cursing and slamming the locker room door on his way out, with it being connected to the Punk return. PWInsider also reports that McIntyre was frustrated backstage.

Other talent who knew Punk are said to have greeted him backstage upon the return, with some reactions filmed. Punk is also expected to be at Raw on November 27.
