AEW Dynamite Results July 1: New TBS Champion Crowned

The fallout from Forbidden Door, a new champion was crowned and more on the July 1 AEW Dynamite.

As Willow Nightingale was forced to vacate the TBS title due to injury, Dynamite saw the next champion determined. Queen Aminata, Hikaru Shida, Persephone, Kris Statlander, Harley Cameron and Maika all competed in a Survival of the Fittest match to see who would capture the vacant gold.

Additionally, MJF defended his AEW World Championship against Mark Briscoe, and Men’s Owen Hart Cup winners Will Ospreay and Mercedes Mone celebrated their victories.

Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness were on commentary for the show.

AEW Dynamite Results July 1:

  • Backstage footage from Forbidden Door opened the show. Jon Moxley offered Will Ospreay a spot in the Deathriders. Ospreay then met with Kenny Omega and MJF backstage. MJF said he would see Ospreay at Wembley.
  • MJF defeated Mark Briscoe to retain the AEW World Championship. MJF looked to attack Briscoe after the match, but Kenny Omega made the save. MJF offered Omega a match next week, but if Omega loses, he can’t challenge for the title ever again. Backstage, Ospreay asked MJF why the stipulation. MJF responded that he did it because he is the champion.
  • Andrade appeared onstage and was asked why he betrayed MJF. Andrade was attacked from behind by Jake Doyle, Lance Archer, Brian Cage and Kevin Knight.
  • Mercedes Mone appeared via video and said that no one is on her level.
  • Kevin Knight defeated Lio Rush to retain the TNT Championship. Darby Allin appeared live after the match and asked for a title match, but was refused based on his behaviour at Forbidden Door.
  • Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay defeated The Swirl.
  • Jay White appeared live with the Bang Bang Gang. White spoke about his time away and that he is coming for The Dogs.
  • Hikaru Shida won the Survival of the Fittest match to become the new TBS Champion, last eliminating Kris Statlander.
  • Kenny Omega accepted MJF’s challenge. Next week it will be MJF vs. Omega with the title on the line. If Omega loses, he can never challenge for the title again. A brawl ensued and security broke things up.
