Sting’s Final Match At AEW Revolution Confirmed; Said To Have “Major Say” In Choice Of Opponent

Sting will finish his legendary in-ring career at AEW Revolution in a match that few would have predicted.

With the date and venue confirmed for the next AEW pay-per-view, the only formality left for The Icon is to choose who gets the honour of the final opponent. Many had stated that long-time ally Darby Allin should be the chosen one as the duo have been closely aligned and it would make for a great passing of the torch moment. Other names had been batted around with some going as far to say that Ric Flair should come out of retirement for one more match. However, on January 10th, two new challengers appeared to throw their hats into the ring.

In the main event of Dynamite, Sting and Darby Allin would defeat Powerhouse Hobbs and Konosuke Takeshita in a wild Texas Tornado match. Ending the match with a Scorpion Death Drop off a raised platform, Sting took a long time to get to his feet afterwards. As the dust settled on the match, Tony Schiavone made his way to the ring and asked Sting about the final opponent. At this point, the interview was cut short as The Young Bucks’ music rang out through Daily’s Place and the brothers walked out to the crowd. The former Tag Team Champions stared down Sting and Allin as the show went off the air.

In a new update by Fightful Select, new details have been provided as to the specifics of the upcoming match. It is noted that Sting and Allin vs. The Bucks have been in consideration for a number of weeks and The Icon is “very on board” with this choice. Sting has had a major say in who the opponents will be and Tony Khan has been very supportive of this, wanting to make sure that the Hall of Famer gets the appropriate send-off at Revolution.

The report also notes that Ric Flair, who has been accompanying Sting for a number of matches, was never considered for any more matches but does want to take part in more physical spots, as was seen on the January 10th Dynamite.

Sting’s Final Match Sees Strong Ticket Sales For AEW Revolution

In the latest update by WrestleTix, 15,314 tickets have been sold for the upcoming pay-per-view. Unsurprisingly, many fans want to be in attendance to witness the Hall of Famer write the final chapter in his epic career.
