Tony Khan Unable To Comment On Possible CM Punk Non-Compete Clause

Tony Khan does not want to get into the specifics of CM Punk’s release.

Following the announcement made by AEW that CM Punk has been fired from the company, it is unknown if Punk is able to turn up to another promotion as soon as possible or contractually has to wait.

Khan was asked if there is any kind of clause following Punk’s release at the All Out press conference. Khan said he can’t comment on any specifics:

“I don’t want to discuss the terms of the separation in that sense. I very much want to thank CM Punk, Phil, for everything he did in AEW as a wrestler. I don’t think it was an easy decision for anybody on the discipline committee or the outside counsel or for me to do something like that. I do think it was the right move. As far as what’s going to happen in the future, I can’t speak to that. I’m not the attorneys who interpret all that language,”

It is widely known that when a WWE Superstar is released from their contract that if they were on the main roster they can’t wrestle for 90 days and if they were a part of the NXT roster it is 30 days. With only a small handful of talent actually released from AEW contracts, their status after a firing is still relatively unknown.

H/t to Fightful for the above transcription.
