Tomasso Ciampa is the new NXT Champion following a Fatal 4 Way match also featuring Pete Dunne, LA Knight and Von Wagner. The crowning occurred on the debut episode of the new look NXT 2.0
The first episode of the new look NXT followed the news at the weekend that the previous NXT Champion, Samoa Joe, vacated the NXT title due to injury. The Fatal 4 way match was initially going to determine a number one contender for Samoa Joe. However, following the news of the title being vacated, NXT General Manager William Regal made the announcement that the match would in fact be for the NXT Championship:

It was first announced that the four contenders would be Tommaso Ciampa, LA Knight, Kyle O’Reilly and Pete Dunne. However, O’Reilly was attacked in a backstage segment by Ridge Holland and Pete Dunne. Following the attack, Kyle O’Reilly was unable to compete. As a result, William Regal announced Von Wagner as the replacement in the NXT Championship match.
The match itself ended with Ciampa hitting The Fairy Tale Ending onto LA Knight to become victorious.
This reign is now Ciampa’s second time holding the top title in NXT. It should be noted that the NXT Champion never lost the title in his first reign. Ciampa unfortunately had to relinquish the title due to injury in March 2019. It also appears that the next challenger for the NXT Championship has been set. New NXT star Bron Breakker has addressed Tommaso Ciampa in a promo airing on NXT’s Twitter page.
