The WWE Rule The Undertaker Thought He Could Break But Was Still Punished For

The Undertaker

Despite being the most tenured wrestler in WWE, The Undertaker still had to follow the rules.

Following the introduction of the PG rating in 2008 and a greater emphasis on the well-being of performers as time went on, previous practices that were commonplace in wrestling matches were prohibited. Chocking, blading and dangerous moves were all strictly banned and heavy fines were issued to anyone who thought otherwise. At WrestleMania 27, Undertaker faced off against Triple H in a No Holds Barred match. As Undertaker was the longest-serving performer in the company and Triple H was Vince McMahon’s son-in-law, they figured that they could utilise a chair shot to the head in the match without any repercussions. As it turned out, they were very wrong.

Recalling the aftermatch on his Six Feet Under podcast, Undertaker recalled receiving a large fine for breaking the rules and Triple H receiving the same punishment:

“Even after they banned the chair shots. I’m wrestling Triple H and we’re [thinking] I’m the most tenured guy here, you’re his son-in-law, surely we can get away with it. He [Vince McMahon] fined our ass! I remember getting my check for WrestleMania and there was that big minus on there and I was like son of a bitch! I called him [Triple H] up right away. I said ‘Did you get fined?’ He was like ‘Yeah, I got fined too.’ I was like ‘What the hell good is it to be his son-in-law or his most tenured guy and you still get [fined]? But he [McMahon] had to set an example. That’s what he did.”
