Following months of anticipation and excitement, The Iron Claw hosted its world premiere in Dallas, Texas on November 9th.

Based on the true story of the Von Erich family, the film sees the tragedy and triumph of the brothers living under the shadow of their domineering father and coach.

Although wildly successful in the wrestling world winning championships in multiple territories, there were multiple tragedies associated with the family that included injuries and suicides that was sprung from the “Von Erich curse.”

Attending the premiere were the top stars from the movie including Zac Efron [Kevin Von Erich], Jeremy Allen White [Kerry Von Erich], Harris Dickinson [David Von Erich], and Stanley Simons [Mike Von Erich]. Also in attendance was writer and director Sean Durkin and Kevin Von Erich.

Dealing with dark themes, the movie will be a tough watch for those familiar and less familiar with the work of the Von Erichs. Judging by initial reactions, The Iron Claw will also resonate with wrestling and non-wrestling fans alike.

The biographical drama has the seal of approval from the family it is based upon, with Kevin Von Erich being extremely complimentary of the cast, in particular Efron’s portrayal of himself:

While the movie itself gained buzz upon being first announced, fans of AEW were excited even more when it was revealed that World Champion MJF was cast in the movie as Lance Von Erich, who is not related to the other 4 brothers. While fans familiar with MJFs signature promo style in AEW will be anticipating the appearance of the AEW star, let’s just say they shouldn’t get their hopes up too much.

First reactions for the movie have been extremely positive, with rumblings that The Iron Claw may even be considered for major award nominations in 2024.

With the premiere taking place during the SAG-AFTRA strike, the cast at the premiere received the news in real time that the strike had been suspended and was nearing its conclusion, much to the delight of all in attendance.

The Iron Claw will be released in theatres on December 22nd.
