Sami Zayn Hails WWE US Title Reign As Career Highlight

Sami Zayn is very proud of what he accomplished with his recent WWE US Title run.

Zayn won the United States Championship for the first time in his career on the August 29 edition of SmackDown. After pitching the idea to John Cena to bring back the US Championship Open Challenge, the SmackDown star put the title on the line each week against members of the roster who were being underutilised, similar to what Cena did a decade prior.

Zayn’s time as champion came to an end on the October 17 SmackDown when he lost to Ilja Dragunov, who made his surprise return after a year away. Taking to social media to look back on his time as champion, Zayn was very happy with how the 8 weeks played out:

Been reflecting on my run as US Champion. One of my favorite things I’ve done in WWE. 8 weeks, 8 very different opponents, 8 bangers in a row.
It’s hard to do something great. In the age of content, it’s even harder to do something memorable. It felt like this was both. Grateful.
