Ric Flair has stated that he is willing to walk away from AEW is he is becoming an embarrassment to the company.
After first being revealed in a cameo appearance as a surprise for Sting, who is currently on a retirement tour that will end at Revolution, Ric Flair was announced to have signed a multi-year deal with AEW. The announcement was met with online backlash due to Flair’s alleged behaviour over the years and this being another veteran being brought in that will take away time from younger wrestlers.
The latest incident took place during a taping for AEW Rampage after the November 29th episode of Dynamite went off the air. According to those in attendance, Flair allegedly stated that women between the ages of 18 and 28 with “no boyfriends or husbands” should meet him in his hotel room. While this was a reference to his promos back in the 80s, many felt that it was not an appropriate line to say in 2023. It is unknown whether or not this line will be broadcast on Rampage, which airs on December 1st.
Ric Flair’s Address To Fans
Reaching his limit with the online criticism, The Nature Boy took to social media to give his point of view. Flair stated that he shouldn’t be criticised for wanting to be by Sting’s side and if Tony Khan wants him to go, he will go:
I Am So Tired Of Hearing All This Negativity! I Don’t Need To Work, And I Don’t Need The Money. Can’t I Simply Enjoy Being By My Dear Friend @Sting’s Side For The Next Few Months Without So Much Hatred? I Know I’m Old, But That Doesn’t Mean I Can’t Enjoy Life! I Have Earned The Right To Do Whatever I Want & I’m Exactly Where I Want To Be! I Appreciate Everything @TonyKhan, But I’m More Than Willing To Walk Away If I Am Embarrassing You And Your Company. All I Can Say Is I’m Sorry!
Tony Khan has not issued a response online to Flair’s statement.
