WWE announcer Michael Cole spoke about the Brock Lesnar return on the latest episode of Raw, clarifying when plans were put in place to have the former World Champion come back.
Following the main event of SummerSlam night 2 on August 3, which saw Cody Rhodes defeat John Cena to win back the WWE Championship, Brock Lesnar made his return for the first time in 2 years and laid out Cena with an F5 to close out the show.
While Lesnar did not appear live on the August 4 WWE Raw, clips from the return played on the show along with various headlines and reactions. After one of the recaps, Cole spoke directly to the camera about the return, stating that he had spoken with Nick Khan and Triple H and that Lesnar’s return was determined “a number of weeks ago”:
“I had the opportunity to sit down with WWE President Nick Khan and WWE Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque and I asked them a simple question, ‘When was it determined that Brock Lesnar would return to WWE?’ They told me they reached out Brock a number of weeks ago and said, ‘We believe it’s time for you to come home.’ Brock Lesnar said, ‘Let’s do it,’ and here we are.”

Unsurprisingly, although Cole spoke about Lesnar making his return and his conversation with higher-ups, the reason for Lesnar’s extended absence was not discussed as part of the segment. Lesnar was reportedly set to originally return back in January 2024, but plans were scrapped when the former WWE Champion was implaicated in the Janel Grant lawsuit that ultimately led to Vince McMahon resigning from WWE and parent company TKO. Lesnar was not originally named in the initial filing but was in the updated lawsuit. It should be noted that while Lesnar is a part of the allegations, he is not a defendant.
Janel Grant’s team has also issued a statement on the Brock Lesnar WWE return.
