Kevin Owens Announces Injury, Will Miss WWE WrestleMania 41

Kevin Owens will sadly miss WrestleMania 41 after confirming that he is dealing with a major injury and will also require surgery.

Earlier in the day, reports circulated that Owens was dealing with an undisclosed injury and his WrestleMania match with Randy Orton was in jeopardy. Appearing on the April 4th SmackDown, Owens addressed the crowd and confirmed that the rumours are true.

General Manager Nick Aldis first appeared in the ring and admitted it was not a fun part of the job. Noting that there are major risks in the wrestling business, Aldis introduced Owens and let the former World Champion have the floor.

Owens stated that he has been wrestling for 25 years and that he had given it his all every night. After reflecting on the past quarter century, Owens revealed that he had been dealing with a serious neck injury for the past months and that he would need surgery. Owens added that it sucked that he wouldn’t get to face Orton at Mania and that he doesn’t know when he will be back in WWE. Owens thanked the fans and made his way out of the ring. Owens and Orton crossed paths with Orton showing respect to Owens. Aldis then informed Orton that he didn’t have a match for WrestleMania, so Orton hit Aldis with an RKO.

The announcement has dealt a major blow to both the fans and to Owens, who has had a recent streak of standout WrestleMania matches. Most notably, Owens faced Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38 in what was Austin’s first match in 19 years.
