R-Truth has once again addressed the situation surrounding his WWE contract in 2025, and how it felt like a firing from the company.
Shortly after Truth lost to John Cena at the May 24 Saturday Night’s Main Event special, the former United States Champion put out a post on social media that he had been let go by the company. Although it was assumed that Truth had been released from his contract, it was later clarified that the company instead elected to not renew his contract when it expired.
Following an outpouring of support for the veteran wrestler, Truth made his surprise return at Money in the Bank to attack John Cena, and has been with WWE ever since.
The R-Truth contract situation was covered extensively in season 2 of the behind-the-scenes docuseries WWE: Unreal. In the show, Triple H clarified the talks between both sides, and noted that Truth was never not under contract with the company, adding that the decision to not renew was part of the negotiations. However, according to the former Tag Team Champion, things felt much different.
“It Felt Like A Firing To Me. I Couldn’t Figure Out How I Felt”: R-Truth On WWE Situation
Truth appeared on The Breakfast Club, and was asked about the series of events that took place last year. When it was brought up that Truth wasn’t actually fired, the WWE star recounted the phonecall he received:
“Let me ask you this then, I got the call, right? I got my agent working on this end with their agent. I’m going to stay out of that, right? Let them handle that thing,” Truth said. “I get a call from this side saying we’re not going to renew your contract or however it was. ‘So do I come to work? It’s Sunday. Next Sunday my contract would be ending. So do I come to work?’ [They said], ‘No, don’t come to work.’ Oh, okay, ‘Am I done now?’ ‘Yes.’ There was no flight, no calendar. What do you call that? I don’t know if it’s all the same or if it’s different…
Continuing, Truth noted that it did feel like he had been let go, but he never felt angry about it:
“It felt like a firing to me. And that’s when I paused, took that moment. I couldn’t figure out how I felt. It was sudden. We were in negotiations. So I thought, so I was told. It was a negotiation. So it was like, never for once did I feel bitter, jaded, or anger. I was just at loss for feelings, at loss for words, at loss for emotion.”
