First-Ever Women’s North American Champion Crowned At WWE NXT Battleground

History was made at WWE NXT Battleground.

Kelani Jordan made history at WWE NXT Battleground.

Competing in the opening match of the Premium Live Event, Jordan defeated Sol Ruca, Lash Legend, Fallon Henley, Jaida Parka and Michin in a six-woman ladder match to be crowned the inaugural NXT Women’s North American Champion.

Much like the men’s ladder match that took place back in 2018 to crown the first Men’s North American Champion, the match itself saw action from the beginning and high spots throughout including Lash Legend thrown to the outside by all the other competitors and Sol Ruce hitting Sol Snatchers throughout. With all the other competitors taken out, Jordan had a clear path to climb the ladder and win the match.

The victory also marks Jordan’s first-ever championship win in WWE and the first time that a women’s mid-card championship has been introduced in WWE. The championship was first announced back at NXT Stand & Deliver over WrestleMania weekend by General Manager Ava. The competitors in the match competed first in a combine and later in qualifying matches to advance to the ladder match at the Premium Live Event.

What Else Happened At WWE NXT Battleground?

Jordan was the only wrestler to become a new champion on the show as all other champions retained their titles inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Later in the night, Oba Femi successfully defended the North American Championship and Roxanne Perez defended the NXT Women’s Championship against TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace. In the main event of the show, NXT Champion Trick Williams defended the title against Ethan Page, who made his in-ring debut on the show.
